WeCare – the new Charity Partner of PWS

Prestige Wealth Solutions has announced its corporate support for WeCare, the newly formed Non-Governmental Organisation undertaking a humanitarian project in Nairobi, Kenya. As part of its support, PWS will be raising funds and awareness via different initiatives throughout the year – the first of which was a sponsored bungee jump in Dubai on May 30th.

Craig McConnon, Managing Director of PWS, explains why WeCare was chosen:

“We were actively looking for a good cause to support as a business when one of our advisers told me about the charity he and a group of friends had set up a year ago,” he said.

WeCare was established in December 2012 with the aim of providing the children of Victorious Joy with their own purpose built home and school. Once successful, further projects will be rolled out in other developing countries.

Victorious Joy is in Kahawa West, Nairobi. It is home to more than 50 children ranging between new born babies to young adults and is run by Mama Rose. The children may have been abandoned or abused, or their parents may be incapable of looking after them because of drug addiction or failing health.

Their current accommodation is a rented two bedroom bungalow with makeshift shack in the garden – the girls live inside while the boys live in the shack.

The new building project is being carried out in stages as and when funds are available. Stage one is to build an interim home on a small patch of land that has already been donated to Mama Rose. The proposed three storey building will then replace the existing accommodation (which was outgrown long ago).

The larger vision is for enough land to build an orphanage and separate school with dedicated sports field. Ideally this would include a field in which to grow crops and raise livestock, which would obviously help feed the children, but could provide enough left over to sell at market.

In addition to the Middle East, PWS operates in Nairobi and Cape Town and has recently opened new offices in Johannesburg. Geographically then, WeCare appears a perfect fit.

“I’m a great believer in giving back to the societies in which we operate and what better cause is there than children in need of daily food, a home to live in and an education?” Craig said. “I think WeCare has made a great start in helping Mama Rose and we at PWS are fully behind the initiative,” he said.
